One of the characteristic of Jakarta when welcoming of New Year is Paper Trumpet. People like to blow these paper trumpet while doing the countdown on the street or while having a gathering in public places. There are many Paper Trumpet Vendor who sells their product, usually a week before new year and they can be seen a lot at downtown street.

The price is around 10.000 - 30.000 Rupiah and usually go cheaper when nearing the new year's day.

Jakarta Street Food Part 1

About

Street food in Jakarta is fairly easy to find. Often wherever you go the street vendor are just there around the corner or displaying their cart on the street. For those who want to try, there are several things to consider:

1. The hygiene. Street food usually are not too hygiene. You will know what I mean once you see them.
2. The taste of the food is not always tasty, but cheap. Then how to find an authentic cheap good street food? I can say experience is the key. Or you can ask for local people here. Hopefully, I can make some post about this in the future.

Gorengan/Fries

While the western has french fries, Indonesia has fries also. Usualy, they fry tahu (bean curd), tempe (soy bean cake), pisang goreng (fried banana), risol (fried dunpling), singkong (cassava) and many others.

Central Park Mall Jakarta

This mall is one of the newest in Jakarta, It is opened for public on 2009. Central Park Mall is one of my favorite mall in Jakarta because the concept is good. There is a garden inside the complex of the mall where you can access it through one of the level in the mall. It is located just next to Taman Anggrek Mall.

Grand Indonesia is a supermall. It consist of 3 parts: East Mall, West Mall and the bridge that connect it. I always like to go here whenever I want to look for some stuff because there are many varieties of product sold here. On the previous post I already talk about the east mall and the location.

Here is some of the pictures of east mall:

The bridge also has many shops, the traffic here is good because a lot of people always get through here whenever they want to get across from east mall or west mall. It is the only route beside getting across through the street.

The Interior

I prefer the east mall interior rather than west mall because there is many different theme here. But there is more shop in west mall and on the bridge than in the east mall. For me I like to circle all these area whenever I'm there to see what's new. It is always interesting to do window shopping.

World Press Photo 2011 Jakarta

Yesterday When I was in Pacific Place Mall, I stumble across a photo exhibition. It is an exhibition of some of the winners of World Press Photo 2011. How lucky I am to see such compelling pictures. Some of them are disturbing, some are beautiful but all of them are emotional. It is very interesting to see pictures from the volcano eruption victim or a riot or any disaster situation. The photographer is succeeded capturing the perfect moment at the perfect time. The event itself is already started since 9 December 2011 and its gonna be there until 4 January 2012. If you cannot go there, you can still see the pictures from their website, World Press Photo 2011 Winners.

Pacific Place Mall Jakarta

This is one of the luxurious mall in Jakarta that I like to visit. It is located near the semanggi area, south jakarta.  Located at SCBD area, Jendral Sudirman road No. 52-53, South Jakarta. Phone: 021-51402828.

Pacific Place Mall

They have nine level including the basement and lower ground area. I like this mall because it is not too crowded despite its many luxurious shop. I just love to see good stuff there, many variety so there's a lot of things to look at. There is also Kem Chick on the basement level, a supermarket providing many imported brand not available in local supermarket. Another good reason for me to come here is on the 5th and 6th floor there are many restaurant with different theme. The whole area is different from other level because there is this restaurant with a little boat in a shallow pool. Also the sky is painted with clouds so the customer feels like its on the outdoor.

Christmas Eve Dinner 2011 - Tin Pan Alley

Yesterday, I'm having christmas eve dinner with chyntia at Tin Pan Alley. This is my first time having a christmas dinner with her =) and also the first time tried the Tin Pan Alley Restaurant. Yesterday the weather was sunny and the traffic was good. It only took me 20 minutes =D to get there. We went there at 5 pm. Tin Pan Alley is located at UOB Plaza Building.

Location: UOB Plaza Lobby, M.H. Thamrin road. No. 10 Central Jakarta.

Usually on holidays or special event like Christmas or New Year, you should make a reservation first so you have a table there. Yesterday we were not making any reservation, so we have to come earlier to have an early Christmas dinner. When we arrived, the parking lot and the restaurant is still empty and the receptionist told us that we can only dine there if we can finish at 7 pm because the tables have been reserved by other people.

Before I went there, I researched the review on the internet. You can see the review on Taste Buds To Share. In my opinion, the food there was good matched with the ambience. Tin Pan Alley is actually a western restaurant although at first I thought they were serving chinese food. That night, Chyntia was having Stuffed Chicken Breast IDR 69.000/ USD 8.00+, I have Grandma's Fried Chicken IDR 75.000/ USD 9.00+ and we also have Potato Chili Wedges as appetizer IDR 52.000/ USD 6.00+.

Overcomer Church Christmas Event 2011

Yesterday I was invited by Overcomer Church to attend their Christmas event at Central Park Mall. When I arrived at Central Park Mall it's already crowded. The mall itself is popular among the jakarta people. It is located at west Jakarta. I drove there for about 45 minutes, normally it would take only 25 minutes due to heavy traffic on friday afternoon. Also the weather is grim, I'm having thought of the possibility of heavy rain later on making the traffic even worse.

That is Citraland Mall
At the Central Park Mall the atmosphere is different, there are lots and lots of people. And at the atrium there is a human tree christmas choir. If that what it is he-eh. I can feel the Christmas!

The Christmas Event

The event itself is located on 8th floor in a hall just besides Blitzmegaplex Cinema. The event itself was attended by more than 1500 people. It is a typical Christmas event, singing songs, drama and also a sermon. I've been doing this every year, but this is the first time I attended the Overcomer Church Christmas event. Every church has its own style and it's been my pleasure for me to see different church every year.
